Welcome to Ava’s Mom! I am Coleen and Ava is my adopted American Pitbull Terrier mix. Ava has had her own Instagram since July of 2019, as requested by many of the fans she accumulated while appearing on my own private social media pages. Ava has a smile that lights up a room and a personality that wins over just about everyone she encounters. Once people hear her story, which I will highlight on her blog, they adore her even more. She’s overcome so much and bears many emotional scars. Despite that, she manages to love with an abandon that is palpable and inspiring.

For years I have wanted to do a blog. I even started one a few years ago but abandoned it. I like to write. It’s a good creative outlet for me and my career as an accountant is decidedly non-creative (unless I want to go to jail, which I do not). I usually write for myself, but it occurred to me that I could write for myself and still use my voice to do some good.

So, here I am, giving it another go. As of now, this site is broken into three different sections. I don’t know how things may or may not change down the road. “Ava’s Life” is Ava’s blog, written from her perspective. This is a place for her to talk about her adventures at “school” (daycare at Dog Culture), her journey overcoming anxiety, particularly separation anxiety, and her outings around Greenville, SC. “Ava’s Mom” is a page for me to write about, well, ME. I have dealt with anxiety and depression for over half my life. Overcoming those feelings is a daily struggle and I hope that by sharing I can lead someone to be unashamed about getting help for himself or herself. Lastly, but most importantly, is the page titled “Rescue 101”. I found myself in the world of animal rescue unexpectedly in 2008 after adopting my first dog, Apollo. Wow, overwhelming is an understatement. There was, and still is, so much to learn, and I’d like to share those things with you, if you’d like to learn along with me.
